November News: Award Ceremonies and a Growing Emergency

Young Freelancer of the Year

As we hurtle headfirst towards the end of the year, the awards season is well and truly underway. If you’re celebrating awards, hitting targets, or successful projects this year, congratulations. We’ve had something of a crazy month here at Making You Content, and we’ve been itching to update you all. So let’s take a moment to press pause on the past few weeks and look at what’s been happening.

Britain’s Young Freelancer of the Year

You may have seen the news on social media, but we’re thrilled to announce that our founder, Kelly, was crowned IPSE’s Young Freelancer of the Year 2015 on National Freelancers Day.

A fantastic evening hosted by the hilarious Shappi Khorsandi, the result came as a real surprise, but it was an honour to receive recognition for the our growing business. Thanks to everyone who has sent kind wishes our way; we’ve been overwhelmed by the response. And congratulations to Paul Allington, The Code Guy, who won the Inspire category alongside us!

Forward Ladies Awards

We weren’t quite so lucky at the Forward Ladies Awards, but had a brilliant time at the ceremony in late October. Hosted by the fabulous Christa Ackroyd, we met some truly inspiring businesses and individuals, and enjoyed celebrating women in business together.

As a finalist in the Young Entrepreneur of the Year category, it was a privilege to be shortlisted against such successful entrepreneurs. The winner of our regional heat, Pro Blo founder Rebecca McCann, went on to win the final!

Supporting the Next Generation

Last week, we were delighted to join some fascinating creatives from the North West at the Arts Emergency mentor training evening in Manchester. If you haven’t heard of Arts Emergency before, this charity supports 16-19 year olds from less privileged backgrounds, helping them gain access to arts and humanities.

Currently based in London, the charity will be kickstarting its first pilot scheme outside the capital in Manchester early next year. And we can’t wait to get stuck in! Think you could donate or give your time to this cause? Get in touch for more information!

Meanwhile, Kelly will be joining the IPSE Education and Steering Committee, to raise awareness amongst students about the opportunities and benefits that self-employment and freelancing can provide. Stay tuned to hear more about this as it develops!

We told you it had been an exciting month for our copywriting agency! And with Christmas just around the corner, we can’t wait to see what December has in store. Got your own news to share? Tweet us or find us on Facebook to start the conversation!
